Long Run #1

Today was my first long run with the training group. I was only going to do 4 miles...because I haven't really run since March...but I got confused and ended up runnig 5 1/2 miles instead. It was a lot of fun...and I had a nice pace. I was really nervous about water before the run. I didn't want to have to run with a water bottle..but they had water along the way. Next week I have a tempo run on Tuesday (that I may or may not go to) and the Peachtree is on Wednesday.

******The 1/2 marathon is getting closer - almost 2 months away.*********

Last Week - Bootcamp Month 1

This is final week of my first month of bootcamp. We did some drill where we were divided up in teams. While one team carried weights up and down a block as quickly as they could - the other team did reps of pushups, situps, squats, etc. The team who carried all the weights back and forth and maintained a high rep score won. My arms are very sore.

Top 20 Party Schools - R-MC makes the list

According to Princeton Review, my college has the prestegious honor of being ranked in the top 20 Party Schools in the country. It's number 15! Right below University of Georgia, Indiana University and the University of New Hampshire. The sad thing is that out of all of the schools listed, my college is the smallest with only 1400 people. What does that tell you?

Why the Grass is Greener

I figured out why my neighbor's grass is much much much greener than ours; its all about the lime. During a crawfish boil at my other neighbors house, I questioned my green grass neigbor regarding his lawn. He is from Florida, and much like myself, had a different type of grass prior. Apparently, its all about altering the ph level of the grass - and lime can do this. His lawn has to be the greenest on the street....with no added watering.

B's Night Out

This past weekend, I went home to B-more for B's Bachlorette Party and Shower. It was a lot of fun. Let's just say B made 79.00 dollars at the Bachlorette Party with some fun games (see picture).

"Baltimore - Get In On It" - in jail

I went to my hometown for my friend's Bridal Shower/Bachlorette party this weekend. I had an opportunity to drive downtown to meet AH for lunch; on the way downtown I saw an interesting slogan. It read "Drop the gun or pick a room". It's in huge letter's on the side of the Baltimore Prison and very hard to miss. I can't say that I have ever seen a slogan or ad on a prison before. I guess the prison has a cool marketing department. I thought it was kinda catchy! I'm not sure that a slogan on the jail is going to slow down the crime rate in one of the most dangerous cities in the country, but who knows! I will admit, the slogan on the prison is much better than Baltimore's new slogan "Baltimore - Get In On It". Very odd.

Back to Boot Camp

Late last week, I decided to go back to boot camp. Recently, I have felt very tired and sluggish and I thought that this would be a great remedy. DW, MH, AH, and I signed up for the VA Beach 1/2 marathon in September. In order to get in shape to train - I thought a month of boot camp would be just what I needed.

Either BC has gotten harder or I have gotten really weak. The first day we did our PT (physical fitness test). I didn't do very well; I ran a 1/2 mile in 4:30 (which is not great at all), I could only do 10 unassisted push ups and 25 assisted push ups in a minute, 35 sit ups in a minute, and I only held plank position for 2 minutes. Not very impressive for my PT. I did get measured (my arms, waist, etc..- I will not be disclosing those measurements) and I have a bmi of 16.1. Things can only get better from here!

The boot camp has a new gym..so we are doing inside and outside activities. There is no doubt that the workouts are more intense. There are more chin ups and pull ups involved then ever before. I also have done more squats in the past three days than I have in the past three months. All in all - I'm really enjoying myself so far. I am starting to feel much better!
